Why choose ‘Y’ Blades over hammers?

They are often used for customers mowing grass, lawns, parks and general pasture where a fine finish is preferred.

We have tested both hammers and “Y” blades side by side and have found the cut quality between the two to be very similar.  The only advantage we find to ‘Y” blades is they require approximately 10% less horsepower to run.

If horsepower is not an issue for you, we recommend hammer blades (SKU21900) as the cut quality is still excellent and they are more durable for all conditions.

If you tractor is struggling to run your flail mower with hammers fitted, “Y” blades are a good option to reduce horsepower requirements.

(“Y” blades are not suitable for scrub, debris etc. – grass only)
